Under Article L1252-5 of the Transport Code, it is punishable by one year's imprisonment and a €30,000 fine to transport or cause to be transported by air dangerous goods whose carriage is not authorized.

Non-radioactive drugs or toiletries (including aerosols). It is accepted that "medicines and toiletries" include hairspray aerosols, perfumes and colognes and medicines containing alcohol. Aerosols of division 2.2, for domestic or sporting use which do not present a subsidiary hazard.

Note: The net quantity of these articles, authorized for each passenger and crew member, must not exceed 2 kg or 2 L in total and 0.5 kg or 0.5 L per article. Aerosol discharge valves must be protected by a cap or other suitable means to prevent inadvertent spillage of contents.

Security equipment such as security cases, boxes or purses for transporting cash containing dangerous goods, e.g. lithium batteries or pyrotechnic materials, may be carried in the hold only if they meet the following requirements:

  1. The equipment must be fitted with an effective means of preventing accidental activation;
  2. If the equipment contains an explosive or pyrotechnic substance or an explosive article, the article or substance must be excluded from Class 1 by the competent national State authority in accordance with provision 3.1.7.1;
  3. If the equipment contains lithium cells or batteries, these cells or batteries must comply with the following restrictions:
    - For a lithium metal cell, a quantity of lithium not exceeding 1 g; 
    - For a lithium metal battery, a total quantity of lithium not exceeding 2 g;
    - For lithium ion cells, the nominal energy in Watt-hours does not exceed 20 Wh;
    - For lithium ion batteries, the nominal energy in Watt-hours does not exceed 100 Wh;
    - Each cell or battery is of a type that meets the requirements of each test in subsection 38.3 of Part III of the UN Manual of Tests and Criteria.
  4. If the equipment contains dye- or ink-expelling gases, only gas cartridges and small gas-containing receptacles with a capacity not exceeding 50 mL and which do not contain constituents subject to these Regulations other than a Division 2.2 gas are permitted. The release of gas must not cause crew members to be so inconvenienced or disturbed that they are unable to perform their duties properly. In the event of accidental release, all dangerous effects must remain confined within the equipment and must not produce any significant noise;
  5. Faulty or damaged safety equipment is not authorized for carriage.

Fuel cells used to power portable electrical devices (e.g. cameras, cell phones, laptops and camcorders), and fuel cell refill cartridges, under the following conditions:
 

  1. Fuel cells and fuel cell cartridges may contain only flammable liquids, corrosive substances, liquefied flammable gases, water-reactive substances or hydrogen in metal hydride;
  2. Refueling of fuel cells on board an aircraft is not permitted unless a spare cartridge is installed;
  3. The maximum quantity of fuel in a fuel cell or fuel cell cartridge must not exceed:
    - For liquids, 200 mL;
    - For solids, 200 g;
    - For liquefied gases, 120 mL for non-metallic fuel cells or fuel cell cartridges or 200 mL for metallic fuel cells or fuel cell cartridges;
    - For metal hydride hydrogen, fuel cell cartridges must have a water capacity less than or equal to 120 mL.
  4. Each fuel cell and fuel cell cartridge must comply with IEC 62282-6-100 Ed. 1, including Amendment 1, and carry the manufacturer's certificate stating that it complies with the specification. In addition, each fuel cell cartridge must indicate the maximum quantity and type of fuel in the cartridge;
  5. A person may carry no more than two spare fuel cell cartridges in or on their checked or carry-on baggage;
  6. Fuel cells containing fuel are permitted in carry-on baggage only;
  7. The interaction between fuel cells and batteries integrated into an appliance must comply with IEC 62282-6-100 Ed. 1, including Amendment 1. Fuel cells whose sole function is to charge a battery in the device are not permitted;
  8. Fuel cells must be of a type that will not charge batteries when the portable electronic device is not in use, and must be durably marked by the manufacturer: "APPROVED FOR CARRIAGE IN AIRCRAFT CABIN ONLY" to be indicated;
  9. Other than the languages that may be required by the State of origin for the markings specified above, English must be used.

Non-infectious samples such as mammal, bird, amphibian, reptile, fish, insect or other invertebrate samples containing small amounts of flammable liquids, carried in checked or carry-on baggage:
 

  1. Samples are: 
    - Wrapped in a paper towel and/or cheesecloth soaked in alcohol or an alcohol solution, then placed in a heat-sealed plastic bag. The amount of free liquid in the bag must not exceed 30 mL; or 
    - Placed in rigid vials or containers containing no more than 30 mL of alcohol or alcohol solution;
  2. The prepared samples are then placed in a plastic bag which is then heat-sealed;
  3. The bag containing the samples is then placed inside another plastic bag containing absorbent material which is then heat-sealed;
  4. The final bag is then placed in a strong outer packaging containing suitable cushioning material;
  5. The total quantity of flammable liquid per outer packaging must not exceed 1 L;
  6. The final packaging is marked "scientific research specimens, not restricted".

  • They must be placed in a closed transparent plastic bag, with a maximum capacity of 1 liter (format 20 x 20 cm.). They must not be stacked or piled up.
  • Only 1 bag is allowed per passenger.
  • Products exceeding 100 ml. must be placed in checked baggage.
